As the saying goes, even good surfaces need a solid foundation. If the putty layer isn't applied properly, it will affect both the quality of subsequent work and the final coating effect.

There are three main reasons for coating blistering and flaking:

1. The putty lacks sufficient curing strength, or a low-quality primer putty has been selected.

2. The primer was either missed or not applied properly, resulting in insufficient adhesion between the finish coat and the putty layer.

3. Water seepage causes the putty to flake off.

Preventive measures:

1. It is essential to ensure adequate curing time for the putty. After the putty has been applied and completed for 24 hours, be sure to carry out water-curing for 2-3 days to prevent powdering caused by insufficient curing time and to accelerate the neutralization of alkalinity. In addition, it is crucial to use only qualified putty products.

2. Before applying the finish coat, all surfaces must be fully coated or sprayed with a sealing primer; ensure even application.

3. Avoid construction in low-temperature conditions; the construction environment must be above 5℃.

Improper application of exterior wall coatings can, at best, detract from the aesthetic appeal of a building’s exterior, and at worst, significantly shorten the service life of the exterior walls. Therefore, when undertaking exterior wall painting, it is advisable to choose high-quality products and employ professional application techniques in order to achieve superior stone-effect coating results.
